The ruby is among the most highly prized of gemstones: large specimens are hard to find.
In
the Middle Ages, rubies were thought to bring good health, as well as
guard against wicked thoughts, amorous desires and disputes. It was
also believed that the ruby held the power to warn its owner of coming
misfortunes by turning darker in color.
The modern view is that rubies promote happiness, success and self esteem. They also encourage passion and zest for life.
Friendship Balls were traditionally made by glass blowers at the end of their shift with left
over glass, given to family and friends to
attract good luck and friendship: they make a beautiful gift.
